Why Choose American Red Oak

American red oak is known for its warm, reddish color and distinctive grain. At Total Timber, we offer this species in Prime quality, specially selected for applications where both appearance and workability are paramount.

Features & Specifications

American red oak has a ring-pore structure, an average density of approximately 650-700 kg/m³ at 12% moisture content, and is distinguished by a slightly coarser grain than, for example, European oak. The color ranges from light pink to dark reddish-brown in the heartwood. Total Timber supplies this wood species in Prime quality, ideal for exposed work, furniture, interior applications, or custom projects.

Benefits for your project

  • Attractive appearance: the subtle reddish-brown hue immediately adds character to interior projects.
  • Good workability: despite its hardness, American red oak is easy to saw, sand, and finish, provided it is properly dried.
  • Versatile applications: suitable for furniture, wall and ceiling panelling, interior design and custom solutions.
  • Customization & quality: In prime quality, we deliver panels or planks with minimal visual deviations, tailored to your specifications.

Applications & customization

Whether you're a furniture maker, interior designer, or project furnisher: American red oak is excellent for:

  • furniture and cabinets where color and grain remain visible
  • wall and ceiling paneling for a warm, stylish finish
  • custom projects where different thicknesses, widths or lengths are required
Total Timber can supply different dimensions, tailored to your order and specifications, in Prime quality.

This is American oak with a rosy hue. Available in virtually flawless, long lengths. The price is very competitive compared to European oak. Ideal for, for example, opaque paintwork.

measuring wood moisture

Drying process of our wood

As soon as the wood arrives from the sawmill, the freshly sawn wood is first brought to the drying rooms. After the wood has been in the front carrier, the wood is further dried back to around 8-12% KD. Once from the drying rooms, several moisture measurements are taken per bundle to check the correct moisture percentage.
