Since 2004, Total Timber has been a reliable player in the world of hardwood.
What began with a passion for wood and a keen eye for quality has grown into a specialized importer and wholesaler with a wide range of hardwood from Europe, the United States, and Canada.
We supply wood to the furniture industry, interior design companies, staircase manufacturers, and other professionals who want to work with only the best. And that's exactly what we offer: carefully selected wood, competitively priced, and available directly from stock.
Good forest management ensures we make optimal use of every tree. Global demand for wood, wood products, and paper is constantly growing. Responsible forest management ensures a continuous supply of wood.
Debarking the trunk is essential for optimal utilization, as bark cannot be used for papermaking. Therefore, all "waste" pieces must be stripped of bark. However, the bark can be reused for fossil fuels.
The shell fragments of the log are the first pieces sent to the chipper when the log begins its journey through the sawmill. This ideal example shows that the entire log, except for the shell fragments, is used for timber production. In fact, several "waste" pieces, such as end pieces and pieces with excessive defects, are sent to the chipper during the sawing process. Each log has its own challenges and will be treated differently.
The outer parts of the trunk contain the fewest knots. This flawless wood is usually used as planks or ribs in thicknesses ranging from 20 to 80 mm.
Further toward the center of the trunk, the number of knots increases, making the wood less suitable for ribs and planks. Square or rectangular beams and heavier wood components are sawn from this area. The very center is suitable exclusively for construction timber. This is where most of the knots are located because it is the oldest part of the trunk. These are branches that were removed in the past and later covered by the growth of the tree.
At Total Timber, we offer both FSC® and PEFC-certified wood. Both certifications guarantee sustainable forest management, but with a slightly different approach. This allows us—and you, the customer—to always choose what best suits the project or the end user.
The FSC certification guarantees that the wood comes from forests managed socially, ecologically, and economically. The entire supply chain, from harvesting to finished product, is certified.
Advantages: globally recognized, strictly monitored, and in high demand for tenders and public projects.
PEFC is the world's largest certification system and collaborates with local forest managers. PEFC also sets strict requirements for replanting, biodiversity, and working conditions, with a pragmatic approach.
Advantages: broad support, flexible system, and a strong fit with private and regional forestry.
Our company is a member of the Royal Association of Dutch Timber Companies (VVNH), the trade association for wholesalers of wood and panel materials. As a Certified Timber Trader®, we endorse the VVNH code of conduct and stand for quality, craftsmanship, and sustainably produced wood.
We import our wood directly from sawmills in Europe, the US, and Canada. Because we visit these sawmills personally, we know exactly under which conditions the wood was produced. This guarantees quality and transparency.
