After sawing, oak wood still has a high moisture content. To make it suitable for furniture and interior construction, the wood must be carefully dried to the desired final moisture content.
1. Pre-drying process
The wood is first placed in an acclimatized pre-dryer with controlled air circulation systems. During this pre-drying process, the moisture content is gradually and uniformly reduced to prevent tension and crack formation. The temperature remains low, and the humidity is reduced in a controlled manner.
2. Main drying phase
After 2-3 months in the pre-dryer, the wood is then placed in a drying chamber. During this process, the temperature is gradually increased, and any remaining moisture is extracted from the wood using warm air circulation and ventilation. This is a precise process and, depending on the thickness of the wood, can take up to several months for the wood to reach the correct moisture content.
3. Conditioning
Once the wood has reached the desired moisture content (always between 8-12% for interior applications), the temperature in the drying room is slowly cooled while simultaneously increasing the humidity to release any internal tension in the wood, which benefits the stability and quality of your final product.
A controlled drying process ensures your wood is stable, dimensionally stable, and immediately usable for your applications. We consciously choose to purchase as much freshly sawn oak as possible. This allows us to maintain complete control over the drying process and guarantee the quality you expect.
